Was Your Son or Daughter Arrested For DUI in Austin?

I’m Attorney Jackson F. Gorski. I’ll Defend Their Freedom & Future.

At some point in our lives we were all young enough to know what it was like to have fun, whether it’s the result of a good decision or a bad decision. Too often in Austin and other college towns having fun involves alcohol, marijuana, and other substances. Activities of this nature can lead to minors making the poor judgement-call of driving while they’re under the influence of booze or another substance.

It goes without saying that operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is a bad decision, and its illegal. However, it doesn’t mean that a person’s life should be irrevocably altered in a negative way because they made a mistake.

Regardless of the circumstances that led up to an arrest of a minor for DUI in Austin, it’s always best to consult with an experienced DUI lawyer to get a full understanding of the options available to the accused.

My office provides free and thorough case evaluations to give my clients the information they’ll need to make the best decision with regard to moving forward on their case.

An Overview of Minor Involved DWI Cases

In short, DUI is the criminal charge applied to minors who are arrested for DWI (Driving While Intoxicated). When an adult is arrested for the offense they’ll be immediately jailed, car towed, and hit a with misdemeanor or a felony criminal charge. For minors, the immediate enforcement of the law isn’t as severe and usually results in a ticket as peace officers aren’t always required to take custody of the offender.

DUI is short for Driving Under the Influence.
DUIA is short for driving under the influence of alcohol.
DUID is short for driving under the influence of drugs.

Texas DUI law is explicit, “Driving or operating watercraft while under the influence of alcohol (or drugs) by a minor” is a crime. First time offenders will be ticketed and charged with a Class C Misdemeanor which will result their liability to paying a fine of up to $500.00. They may also be required to perform community service for up to 40 hours and will likely lose their Texas Driver License.
